What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy is a holistic health approach that harmonizes the ancient principles of physical and mental well-being found in yoga with modern scientific methods.  It goes beyond typical physiotherapy by addressing not only physical ailments but also how mental states, past traumas and life circumstances impact the body.  For instance, it explores whether a sore back may result from lifestyle, stress or past mental trauma.

In parallel, yoga therapy complements counselling by offering practical ways to apply therapeutic principles.  Imagine alleviating anxiety by practicing chest-opening poses to enhance airflow.  This body-first approach proves especially valuable for individuals hesitant to discuss their traumas and anxieties.  By addressing the body, it aids emotional regulation and can lead to healing or improved communication of one's state of mind.

In a manner akin to life coaching, yoga therapy assists individuals in refining their goals, values and ethics while fostering lifestyle choices that integrate physical, emotional and spiritual need into their lives seamlessly.  Yoga therapist operate like personal trainers, crafting highly customized plans for each client.  They receive training in various physical and mental support modalities, ensuring a personalized, empowering experience.  Importantly, yoga therapist done seek to replace other professionals but act a bridges, filling gaps that may emerge in a person's health journey.

Meet the Practitioner

Hello, My name is Danny Ferguson

I am not your average yoga teacher. My interests are diverse - I ride motorcycles, follow sports, read comics, and am an artist. I have a unique sense of humor and enjoy watching science fiction shows. I have been married for over 20 years and have four children. I used to be a director at a youth agency and have dealt with various crises. I understand the challenges of balancing work and home life. My own struggles with chronic pain and mental health led me to discover the powerful benefits of yoga for both physical and mental well-being. I have dedicated my career to working with diverse communities and use my understanding of the human experience, along with advanced yoga therapy training, to empower others on their own journey towards balance and self-care. If you're looking for a different kind of yoga experience, have similar interests or experiences, or simply want a new perspective on your health, I welcome you.

From our first Yoga Therapy session almost one year ago, Danny set the bar very high. His professional, earnest, and caring self came through in each session always meeting me where I was, without judgment. He actually cares, and this is obvious through the ways that he shows up time and time again. He is present and displays acute listening skills and a great sense of intuition. It’s not enough that he has the knowledge, but his desire to empower his clients so that they have a plethora of tools they understand, and can implement successfully is what sets him apart.

Danny is a rare breed, he has a good grasp of both the physical and energetic aspects of yoga therapy and that will benefit his clients on many levels. Danny sets his clients up for success and consistently goes the extra mile. The session doesn’t end when you leave the room. His ability to hold space beyond the time allotted is profound. I would recommend him to anyone on a healing path.
